Holy cow is it hot out! I saw recently where we have had 30+ days of 90 degree weather and we’re on track to shatter some records.
No better place to be than is some cool water and what better time for our scallop edition to hit the streets! This is our biggest issue of the year and we are happy to welcome in several new advertisers to go along with our feature article on Steinhatchee. They include; Florida Woodbone Fish Gallery, Cedar Key Island Bakery, Skully’z BBQ, Cypress Crab Vacation Rentals Old Mexico Restaurant, Dock to Dwell, Strictly Service,and Thompson Site Service. We also have some old friends back in with us. They are Steinhatchee Ace Hardware, SeaHag Marina, Amy Garver and Ami Sams. Like all of the coastal communities on The Hidden Coast, Steinhatchee took a beating from the hurricanes of 2023 and 2024. Several businesses and homes continue to rebuild but they have come back strong. We spotlight three of those businesses as well as an update from the chamber of commerce of where everyone is at.
Like in the past, they are ready for you to visit for the scallop season. Early reports are it is has been a very successful season, so if you have never been make plans to do so this year! It makes for a fun time for the whole family, and it does not cost a lot. Plus you will be supporting all the local businesses of this area who really need it right now. In addition to our feature story on the town, please make sure to check out our scalloping story as well. Victor Blanco, UF/IFAS, Perry Florida, sent us a wealth of information for the season so take some time check it out before hitting the water. And please be courteous and patient while visiting. These folks are working hard to make sure you have an enjoyable and safe time, and a little kindness goes a long way.
